Top 5 favourite books of 2018 (Guest post written by Leslie)

Shirley asked me to pick my top 5 favourite books and there was no way that I could pick my top 5 favourite books. It’s just impossible and it would take me forever to get it down to 5. Instead, I’m going to do my top 5 of this year! It’s been a great year so far, this is not easy. These are books that I have read this year, not necessarily books released this year. These are in no particular order. I have full reviews of all these on my blog.

1. Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi

I loved this book so much because I really related to Penny. There were just a lot of similarities. I really enjoyed the story and thought that Choi’s writing was amazing. I think it’s so relevant to today because everyone is so immersed in social media. A great book!

2. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

I haven’t read anything like this before. This book is dark and brutal but I loved it so much. Mia is such a fascinating character. There are a lot of twists and turns. Surprisingly, there’s a lot of humour too.

3. Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

This was an unexpected love for me. I’m not a huge contemporary fan and I wasn’t sure that I was going to like it. I loved the online forum aspect and what happens because of it. There’s talk about mental illness and I just adored Eliza! A must read.

4. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

This book really kicked off my reading this year. I had really stepped away from the reading world for a couple of years. A couple of friends recommended it to me and I loved it. I really enjoy fantasy but I especially love the Fae. A book with great characters!

5. Reign the Earth by A.C. Gaughen

I’m really surprised that I don’t hear more about this book. I loved it. It’s really dark and heartbreaking. It’s brilliantly done and I couldn’t put it down. It was a slow start but once it gets going, it doesn’t stop.

What are your favourite books of 2018 so far?
