How I'm going to be a better student

I wanted to write this post and set some goals because college starts in one week and I’m kind of excited to go back. I really loved summer this year especially because I’m mentally in a better state than last summer, which I explained in my mental health update, and also because I did so many great things and I even passed the exam I had to redo this summer.

It’s not that I’m a bad student, because if you’d ask my friends they would probably tell you that I’m such an example student and that everyone always asks me what we need to do if they don’t understand something. And that is true, but I still think that there are some things I can do better. It’s probably me being a perfectionist, but hey, that’s who I am, so deal with it!

1. Weekly revision
So the first thing that I’d like to do is revise my subject matter weekly. I tend to procrastinate on revising the subject matter which means that I cannot always follow in class. I don’t have this with a lot of subjects because I’m a fast learner, but I’m not that good in German and if I don’t revise on time, I just don’t understand what the teacher is saying.

I think it’s also something good because then I wouldn’t have to study as much as during the exam period. My therapist says that I have ADD (I believe her even though it’s not diagnosed by a psychiatrist because it’s 50% hereditary and my mum has ADD so) so I have problems with focusing. During the exams, it’s really hard to study for a long period because I’m easily distracted, so I think that weekly revising would be really helpful.

2. Weekly summaries
I like to write summaries of subject matter we’ve seen in class, but I do tend to procrastinate on that as well. I always write them, but most of the time it’s during my breaks and then it doesn’t really feel like a break. If I would write them weekly, I could enjoy my break and be less stressy when the summary isn’t finished yet.

I’m still trying to find a good technique to write them, perhaps specific colours, … so if any of you guys have some tips, feel free to leave a comment!

3. Study schedule
Like I mentioned above, I want to revise weekly and write summaries weekly so to be able to do that I want to make a schedule so I can see when I have time to relax and when I need to study. I think that making a schedule would be better for me so I will not get stressed and anxious all the time because then I can see that I still have enough time to do everything and that I won’t forget something.

I’m thinking of making schedules in my Bullet Journal, so if you have made these types of schedules or know someone, make sure to comment your/their blog url!

4. Quizlet
And the last thing I want to mention in this blog post is Quizlet. A friend of mine always uses Quizlet, which is an app and website that can help you with studying, and I want to use it more often. I used the app to learn formulas or vocabulary and it’s a fun way of studying and it really helped. You get to know your subject matter better and it’s also not that boring which makes studying more pleasant.

Do you have some tips for me?
