Synopsis

In the shade of a tower hidden in the Realm of the Gods grows a sacred tree tied to all life in Phalyra. Entrusted with its protection, Raziela—the last surviving priestess of the Great Mother, Naiara—spends her days honing herself into a weapon worthy to serve the goddess.

Meanwhile, mankind is turning from the old ways. Now the tree is dying and time is running out. Hoping to save it by rekindling the people’s faith, a desperate Raziela commits an act of sacrilege to perform a miracle.

But when the disillusioned Phalyrians receive a gift from the gods, they send their most ruthless mercenary to hunt down its source. His arrival forces Raziela to question everything she knows. As the two execute a careful dance of secrets and hard truths, they pit the fate of humanity against the wrath of the goddess.

Review

This book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Snowy Wings Publishing!

Braid of Sand is a Rapunzel retelling about a badass girl called Raziela, and Castien.

I’ve never read a Rapunzel retelling, so I was really intrigued by the world Alicia Gaile had created. I’ve never read a book like Braid of Sand, which made the story really original. Besides the originality, I really liked the characters as well. Raziela is really badass, and she and Castien are both unique characters.

The only negative thing I have to say is that the beginning was really slow and it was hard to get into the story. The first few chapters were hard to read because I wasn’t into the story. It took me a while to get through those chapters, but when I was finally in the story, I really liked it!

I cannot wait to discover more books by Alicia Gaile and more Rapunzel retellings!
