Bastards and Scapegoats | Release day blitz

Title: Bastards and Scapegoats
Series: Twisted Legacy Duet #1
Author: Coralee June
Release date: 25 November 2020

Synopsis

The first time I saw Hamilton, he was balls deep in one of the bridesmaids at my mother’s wedding.

He was lethal. Handsome. Cruel. Twisted.

I was drawn to him like fists to glass. We had an angry sort of relationship. There was nothing kind about the broken man that stole my heart and crushed it in his fist. He was all sharp edges. One touch could ruin me. One kiss could end our happy little family.

When my mother married Joseph Beauregard, son of the governor of Connecticut, I never imagined I’d fall in love with my stepfather’s younger brother. I never imagined I’d uncover the truth about his family’s bloody legacy.

Hamilton escaped with scars to his name and a ruined reputation. And now? I wanted out, too. I guess the scandal of our relationship was the least of our family’s problems.

Review

Bastards and Scapegoats is the first book in the Twisted Legacy Duet and tells the story of Vera and Hamilton.

So I’ve been a fan of Coralee June for a while now and after reading this Bastards and Scapegoats, I think I’m even a bigger fan. I’ve never read a story like this one and I couldn’t put it down. After reading the prologue, I knew that this book was going to be amazing and addictive. And I was right…

I was one of those damaging addictions she forced herself to love.

Vera and Hamilton’s story is a messed up one. Vera’s had a hard life with lots of struggles. We read from her perspective and we get to know her thoughts and feelings. From the beginning of the book, I’ve always thought she was older than 18 because of the way she thinks. I really like her as a character because she tried to fight her feelings for Hamilton and because she sees the good in people.

"I’m going to pluck you to pieces. I’m going to chew on your thorns. I’m going to breathe in your sweet scent, clutch you in my first and ruin you, Petal."

As for Hamilton, at the beginning of the book I didn’t know what to expect. You already know a big part of his past after reading the prologue, but you get to know more about him at the end of the book. I was kinda shocked at the plot twist at the end of the book. I didn’t see it coming at all and I wish things ended differently. I think everyone will.

"Petals aren’t meant to be plucked, Hamilton. When you love something, you let it bloom."

I really loved reading Bastards and Scapegoats. The story is kinda wrong but also so good. I couldn’t stop reading the entire time and I even finished this book in one day. I kinda forgot about my obligations and just read the entire time. The story was so well written, and I cannot wait for the sequel. I kinda forgot that this book was a duet, so I didn’t expect the book to end with a cliffhanger. February cannot come soon enough!
