Review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Emilia Zeeland!

The Hive Engineers is the third book in the STAR Academy and continues the story of Yalena and her friends and family.

I liked The Hive Engineers, but I don’t know why it took me a while to get into the story. I really liked the previous books in the series, so I’m not sure why I took me that long to get into the story. I got into the story around 50%, and then I finished the book pretty quickly.

I really liked the concept of this story, it’s so original and nothing like I’ve read before. The characters are interesting and I wanted to know how the story was going to end. However, I will be honest and say that this wasn’t my favourite one in the series, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t like it!

I liked The Hive Engineers and it’s a great ending for the series. I’m looking forward to Emilia Zeeland’s next series!

The Second We Met | Release day blitz

Title: The Second We Met
Series: Fulton U #2
Author: Maya Hughes
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release date: 17 October 2019

Synopsis

Dear Jerk Across the Street, sorry for accidentally walking in on you and catching an eyeful of your – equipment. And hard pass on the open invitation to join you in the shower ‘anytime’, A-hole.

That’s the note I should’ve written. Instead I sent a pleasant and apologetic version.

Had I known Phoenix ‘Nix’ Russo would’ve been the neighbor from hell, I’d have told him right where he could shove my words.

Nix is the big man on campus with everyone lined up at his games to make sure he knows it. Sure, he’s got piercing blue eyes, abs that don’t quit and a smile that could set fire to a set of panties from a hundred yards away, but he’s also the biggest pain in my ass.

Dear Pink-Haired Menace, learn how to take a joke and stop being such a kill-joy…

Elle Masterson called the cops on one of my parties – again. My sweet talking usually gets me out of trouble, but this time it got me into a nice pair of silver handcuffs. Now I’m on a reputation rehab tour with a stop at a spring break community service project.

Guess who’s my new boss?

Now we’re shoulder to shoulder, sweaty, tired and … she’s not anything like I expected. There might just be a heart under that hardass exterior. She’s invading my dreams and I can’t shake the feeling she’s the key to unlocking a piece of me that I’ve hidden away.

It’s only a matter of time until she finds out why I’m really here.

Maybe I can break through her walls and into her heart before that happens … one screw at a time.

Review

This book was provided by the author through Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Maya Hughes!

The Second We Met is the second book in the Fultun U series and tells the story of Elle and Nix. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

The Second We Met is the first book I’ve read by Maya Hughes and I really liked it! I had no expectations at all since I hadn’t read a book by her yet, but now I’ll have some expectations when I read her next book! The Second We Met was such a good Sports Romance/New Adult book!

I really liked the characters. Elle’s parents used to have money, and now they have barely anything. She needs to student jobs and on top of that she does charity to be able to win an award that will help her get a good job. Nix is an athlete whose father wants him to play football even though his passion is cooking with his grandfather. Our main characters don’t have the best family situation and that’s what I like so much about this story: it makes it more realistic and not just about the Romance.

The Second We Met was such a fast paced and well written read. I loved reading about Elle and Nix because they’re a match made in heaven! I really enjoyed reading this book and I cannot wait to read the other books in the Fultun U series!

About the author
Maya Hughes has always loved romance novels. One look at her Kindle is confirmation. She started writing her first romance novel while pregnant with her third child and she hasn’t looked back. Now, her romance writing addiction has replaced her romance reading addiction.

You can find her writing on her foldable keyboard and phone anytime inspiration strikes. Her sweet and steamy stories range from rockstars to small towns and everything in between. When she’s not writing, she’s playing with her three kids, running errands or vegging on the couch with the love of her life and biggest fan, her husband.

Review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Caroline Peckham!

Demon of Mine is the first book in The Devil Heart Boys series and tells the story of Elle and Jack.

Demon of Mine is yet another amazing book written by Caroline Peckham. So far there hasn’t been a book by her that I didn’t love. Every book Caroline Peckham writes is so well written, fast paced and just everything that I needed!

Elle is such a lovable main character. I love her passion for dancing and how interested she is in the occult. Jack is kind of an ass until you get to read the chapters in his perspective and know why he acts like that. I love the double perspective and I just love Elle and Jack!

I think Demon of Mine is one of my favourite books so far, together with the Zodiac Academy series. Demon of Mine is a different kind of story that what Caroline Peckham usually writes, which makes me love it even more! I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Review

This box set was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Carrie Aarons!

Over the Fence Box Set is a box set of 3 amazing books and 1 amazing novella! I loved reading all of these stories because they were so beautiful and emotional. This box set isn’t just a Romance box set, it’s so much more. These books are about friendship, family issues, abusive relationships, death, …

Pitching to Win ★★★★★
A beautiful Romance story about trust and earning trust. Our main character has been through some stuff so it’s hard for her to trust a guy again.

Hitting to Win ★★★★★
I’ve always been a sucker for ballet because I’ve always wanted to be a ballerina. So it’s no surprise that I loved this story. This story wasn’t only about dance, but also about death and family issues.

Catching to Win ★★★★★
This story focused on some family issues and body issues, and it was a best friends to lovers Romance.

Fielding to Win ★★★★★
This is the most emotional story in the box set, it’s about abusive relationships. Although it was a novella, it didn’t feel rushed at all!

The Over the Fence Box Set was so addictive! I finished every book in two days and the novella in one day! I loved getting to know the characters and reading about these 4 handsome jocks! I highly recommend this series and t might be my favourite one by Carrie Aarons!

Magic Swap | Review

Title: Magic Swap
Series: Hidden World Academy #1
Author: Sadie Moss
Pages: 392 pages
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Release date: 10 October 2019
Rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis

Radcliffe Academy is one of the most prestigious magical institutions in the Hidden World. Only the most skilled witches and warlocks grace these hallowed halls.

There’s just one teeny, tiny problem.

I don’t belong here.

At all.

First of all, I’m not a witch. I’m 100% grade-A, boring, bona fide human.

Second, this isn’t even my life.

See, I was out celebrating my twenty-first birthday when I fell into an open manhole. Next thing I knew, I was being rushed to a hospital, and the EMTs kept asking me if I had allergies to unicorn blood.

Oh, and everybody keeps calling me Roxie – which is definitely not my name.

There’s obviously been some kind of mix-up, but I can’t let anyone here know that, or I’ll be in serious danger.

So that leaves me with only one option: pretend to be this Roxie chick until I can figure out a way back to my world.

In the meantime, I have to deal with Roxie’s arch enemy, who miiight know I’m not her, a lothario across the hall with no sense of personal boundaries, and a teacher’s assistant who’s got a crush on me … er, I mean, Roxie.

No problem. I got this. Should be easy, right?

… don’t answer that.

Magic Swap is the first book in the Hidden World Academy series, a medium-burn reverse harem story intended for ages 18+, featuring a sassy human who’s a little out of her depth and the three men who win her heart.

Review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Sadie Moss!

Magic Swap is the first book in the Hidden World Academy series and tells the story of Gabbi and her three men.

I know that when I start a new series/book by Sadie Moss I am going to love it. So it was no surprise that Magic Swap was an amazing book and that I finished it in one day. I really liked the concept of this story as well as the characters.

And talking about characters… Gabbi is such an enjoyable character. I loved reading in her perspective and I just love her in general. We also meet three guys: Cross, Kasian and Theo. Cross is at the moment my favourite one but that doesn’t mean I don’t like Kasian or Theo. It was hard not to like Kasian since he’s a TA and I’m a sucker for student/teacher Romances. Theo is such an amazing guy, but Cross has been there for her the entire time so he’s my number one guy!

Sadie Moss is one of my favourite authors and she did it again! Magic Swap was such an amazing book and so hard to put down! And like every other book by Sadie Moss, this one ends with a massive cliffhanger! I need the sequel!!!

Unintended tells the story of Evie and Ash, two people who’ve been through a lot and from the moment they’ve met, everything changed.

Unintended is the third book I’ve read by Kyra Lennon and was yet another amazing and emotional read. When I started reading the book, I didn’t remember what the story was about. I think that it was a good way of reading this book because I enjoyed it even more.

I could stop caring for Evie and Ash. They’re both struggling and I love that Kyra Lennon isn’t afraid of using depression, anxiety, abuse, … in her books. The abuse is this story was so realistic and I think Kyra Lennon did an amazing job by making the girlfriend abusive instead of the boyfriend. A lot of people don’t believe that women can be abusive even though they can be.

Unintended was such a beautiful book of two people finding each other when they both need someone. This story was so moving and I couldn’t stop reading! I cannot wait to read more books by Kyra Lennon!

Built to Last | Release day blitz

Title: Built to Last
Series: Hidden Hearts #1
Author: Kate McBrien
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release date: 7 October 2019

Synopsis

A one-week road trip.
Two relationship-phobic adults.
What could go wrong?

Max Carmichael finally has a shot to work with a legendary music producer and be something more than a band manager. But first, he has to demonstrate his skill by taking a road trip to scout new acts. The new job will give him the money he needs to help his parents with their struggling London pub and his little sister, who needs rehab. And if he has to spend one week with a free-spirited American woman who drives him crazy, he'll do it. Even if she is a seductive redhead. Max doesn't do redheads. Ever.

Althea Grayson has been living on Santorini for years. She's a trained chef who aspires to open a restaurant that serves amazing food to everyone, not just the people who can afford it. The only thing standing in her way is money. A paid road trip as a traveling companion is a means to an end; it will pay her way back to San Francisco to claim her trust fund and put her on a path to seeing her dream come true. And If she has to spend a week with a grumpy Englishman who drives her nuts, she'll do it. Even if he is a sexy beast.

Excerpt

Max was like a fish out of water with this woman. He was intrigued by her, but they would only be together for a short time on this trip. Once they got to San Francisco, they would go their separate ways.
“Hey,” Althea said in her raspy voice. “You can kiss me if you want to.”
It was dark in the back seat of the car, the only light coming from storefronts or passing cars as they headed back to downtown Seattle.
“It’s okay, Max. I want you to kiss me.”
Max was always in charge and controlled any sexual situation. If he wanted to have sex, he’d choose the woman and make his move. Once she consented, they fucked. It was never romantic; it was merely a physical need fulfilled. Whether she realized it or not—and she probably did—Althea was taking control. Althea held his gaze with kind attention, like she was granting him the time to decide. Unlike the women he hooked up with, Althea wore little, if any, makeup. Her lips had only a trace of lipstick, and that meant she didn’t wear the typical mask of female seduction. There was no artifice; she was natural and open to him.
With a soft sigh, Althea cradled his face with her hands, her thumb gently rubbing his stubble. All the while, her eyes searched his, seeking permission. Althea murmured, “I’ve wanted to do this all night.” She gave him a gentle kiss, her lips soft and warm. It wasn’t the brutal kiss he had given her on Santorini. This kiss was teasing, a promise of secrets to be discovered; and it scared the living shit out of him.
“Are you okay?” she whispered. “If you don’t want to, that’s all right.”
Max traced a finger down her cheek. Could he do this? “Um. Thanks,” Max muttered, carefully taking her hands away. He turned his head, keeping his attention on the city outside the window, and away from the beautiful redhead sitting next to him.
Max opened the door as soon as the car pulled up in front of the hotel. “Wait a second,” Althea said, reaching for him. Max didn’t hesitate. He bolted out the door and made his way to the lift as quickly as possible. When the doors closed, Max took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He wanted Althea, but he also needed some distance. And now, he was a total arsehole. How was he going to get through the rest of their trip?

Review

This book was provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti!

Zodiac Academy: The Reckoning is the third book in the Supernatural Beasts and Bullies series and tells the story of the twins Tory and Darcy.

Zodiac Academy: The Reckoning was such a good sequel and everything that I needed. I really love the Supernatural Beasts and Bullies series and it’s always so hard to wait for the sequel. All the books end with a massive cliffhanger and I just need the next one!

This book is about The Reckoning and whether or not Tory and Darcy will be actual students at the academy. I really loved reading about them because they’re definitely one of my favourite characters ever. This series is just one of my top favourite series!

Let’s talk about these bullies… I’m a big fan of Orion, I think he’s perfect for Darcy. I’m not so sure who’s perfect for Tory. I really like Caleb but I also have this thing for Darius… I also like the friendly side of Seth, and I don’t really have an opinion on Max. It seems like we don’t really get to know him and to be honest, I don’t really mind.

Zodiac Academy: The Reckoning was another amazing book by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti and I cannot wait for the sequel!

September wrap up

In September I read a total of 13 books, I watched 56 episodes (TV Shows) and 7 movies. Read further to know what I read and watched this month!

I read some books that were on my TBR and I'm glad that I read quite some books. The last couple of months I didn't really read a lot of books that were on my TBR, and I'm finally getting there and I feel so good about it. I read Torn (Tattered Heart Duet #1) by Brooke O'Brien, Tattered (Tattered Heart Duet #2) by Brooke O'Brien, Lost Before You (Heart's Compass #2) by Brooke O'Brien, Breaking the Rules (Breaking the Rules #1) by Ember Leigh and Changing the Game (Breaking the Rules #2) by Ember Leigh.

As for ARCs I read Just Roommates (Blue Beech #5) by Charity Ferrell, Glow of the Fireflies by Lindsey Duga, Make Me Fall (Bayshore #2) by Ember Leigh, The Shrike & The Shadows by Chantal Gadoury & A.M. Wright, Wilder (The Renegades #1) by Rebecca Yarros, Nova (The Renegades #2) by Rebecca Yarros, Rebel (The Renegades #3) by Rebecca Yarros and Built to Last (Hidden Hearts #1) by Kate McBrien.

I really loved The Renegades series by Rebecca Yarros and it's hard not to love a book by Ember Leigh!

For TV shows, I watched the pilot episode of Breaking Bad with my boyfriend because he's a big fan of the show. I also watched some episodes of Chespeake Shores, The 100, Younger and Dark. I watched season 3 of 13 Reasons Why, it was a bit boring but I loved the ending until they found something and now they have to make another season... I also watched the entire season 2 of The Rain and I really liked it.

As for movies, I watched the first 6 movies of Harry Potter. I went to London with my boyfriend so I felt like watching the HP movies again, and I loved it! My boyfriend and I will be watching the other 2 movies in October. I also watched Solo: A Star Wars Story and I liked it.
