Hometown Heartless | Release day blitz

Title: Hometown Heartless
Author: Carrie Aarons
Release date: 23 January 2020

Synopsis

One year ago, the boy next door was captured as a prisoner of war.

The boy whose window faces mine.
The backyard buddy who bandaged up my skinned knees.
The childhood crush that kept me up at night, wondering if he’d ever be my boyfriend.
The town hero I wrote endless letters to after he shipped out.
The green-eyed charmer who promised me a kiss the day I turned eighteen.

And now, he’s home.
But he didn’t come back as the boy I once knew.
He’s a man now, one with demons I can’t comprehend.
The damaged soldier keeps telling me I’m not his anymore.
That the war took him, turned him into someone unrecognizable.
What he hasn’t considered is that it took me, too.

He swears there is nothing left between us, that his heart died overseas. But with each look through our windows, we both know his lies are just that. With each fated meeting, the truth only becomes more evident.

Everett Brock occupies the shadows now.
And as much as I try to pull him into the light, it seems the switch is permanent.
What he doesn’t realize is that I’m willing to follow him into the darkness.

Review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Carrie Aarons!

Hometown Heartless is a standalone novel about Kennedy and Everett.

Carrie Aarons is one of the many amazing authors I’ve discovered in 2019 and so far I have loved every book she’s written. So it’s no surprise that I loved Hometown Heartless! Hometown Heartless is the first standalone I’ve read by Carrie Aarons and I really enjoyed reading it!

Kennedy is such a relatable character, I loved reading in her perspective. Everett, on the other hand, was a real jerk. I know he’s been through a lot but he could’ve been a lot nicer to Kennedy… However, I loved that they’re childhood friends who are in love with each other. I always love these kinds of books!

Hometown Heartless is a beautiful book full of emotions. This book is different from the other books I’ve read by Carrie Aarons, but in a good way. I really loved reading this book and I cannot wait to read Carrie Aarons’ next book!

About the author
Author of romance novels such as Red Card and Privileged, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. A former journalist, she prefers the stories she dreams up, and the yoga pant dress code, much better.

When she isn't writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She lives in the suburbs of New Jersey with her husband, daughter and dog.

Running into an ex you haven’t seen in nearly a decade is never a good time.
Running into your ex while he’s arresting you is humiliating.

Lauren
Running into an ex you haven’t seen in nearly a decade is never a good time.
Running into your ex while he’s arresting you is humiliating.
The handcuffs close around my fists at the same time he promises to hate me until he takes his last breath.
I can’t blame him. He pleaded for me not to walk away.
He doesn’t know leaving him broke my heart as much as it did his.
It wasn’t for me. Rather, it was for someone else.

Gage
I skipped town after Hurricane Lauren obliterated my heart.
Coming home was a hard choice to make. Arresting her isn’t.
She has no idea of the demons I carry with me now. No idea that I’m a new man.
Two women ruined me.
One I gave my heart to.
The other punished me for it.

This book was provided by the author through Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Charity Ferrell and Give Me Books Promotions!

Just Exes is the third book in the Blue Beech series and tells the story of Lauren and Gage. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Just Exes was such a good book and yet another amazing read in the Blue Beech series. I really love second chance Romances and this one was so good. Just Exes had some epic plot twists and I couldn’t put this book down.

Just Exes is about Lauren and Gage. They’ve been together when they were younger, but they broke up. Now a few years later they see each other again and everything changes. Lauren is trying not to fall for him but Gage is making it really hard. I loved both characters and I couldn’t stop smiling when they were together!

Just Exes was a quick Romance read and is yet another one that I loved by Charity Ferrell. She’s an amazing author and she can give her books something extra, something emotional, something that makes you keep reading. Just Exes was an amazing read and I cannot wait to read the sequel!

Review

This book was provided by the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Central Avenue Publishing and Netgalley!

Sincerely, is a poetry collection that was previously self-published and is now published by Central Avenue Publishing. This poetry collection is a collection full of love letters and love poems.

I really liked the idea of this collection and I was really curious to see if this poetry collection was something for me or not. I really wanted to like this collection because it’s the first poetry collection that I read this year, but unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped to.

For some reason I couldn’t connect to the poems, I couldn’t ‘feel’ them. I’m not sure how to describe this feeling but usually, when I read poems I get this feeling, and now I did not. I guess this poetry collection wasn’t something for me or maybe at another time, I can enjoy it a bit more?

I do think that the meaning behind this collection is beautiful and some of the poems were really beautiful. I also really liked the illustrations in this collection, illustrations always give the book something extra! I just wish that I could’ve enjoyed this collection a bit more.

Demons, murder, and a trip straight to Hell…

I thought I’d get a little time off before the veritable poop hit the fan, but fate — or rather the Fates — have other ideas. The witch who tried to have my sister possessed has escaped, and not only do I find him dead, but I don’t have a clue who he was working with. Or working for…

Now I have a Council Member in human jail, a ragtag bunch of stuffy law-abiders to lead, and a solid inkling that the next person on the chopping block is me.

All of that would be bad enough, but I’ve got bigger problems. Maria isn’t quite right after a demon almost stole her body, and I have a hunch it’s going to require a trip to Hell to get it fixed.

Sister of Embers & Echoes is the fourth book in the Rogue Ethereal series and continues the story of Max and her friends.

It’s been awhile since I read the third book in the series, so I couldn’t remember every detail but once I was in the story, I couldn’t put the book down. I loved the previous books in the series so it was no surprise that I was going to love Sister of Embers & Echoes too! And look at the cover: it’s so stunning! I mean every cover in this series is so beautiful!

Max is such an amazing character to read about. She’s so kickass and I just love her. And Alistair… He has a special place in my heart! But Striker on the other hand… I kind of hate him. He hasn’t been the best friend to Max…

Sister of Embers & Echoes was yet another amazing book in the Rogue Ethereal series and I loved reading about Max and her friends! I cannot wait for the next book in the series, Priestess of Storm & Stone! BTW have you looked at the cover of Priestess of Storm & Stone, it’s so stunning!!

Excerpt
My eyes narrowed over the rim of my teacup. My grandmother crossed her legs, matching my glare as she sipped her own tea. In all likelihood, she was holding in a laugh. Bernadette had seen oceans rise and fall, empires crumble to dust, entire civilizations wiped from the face of the earth. As one of the first demons in Hell, nothing short of a full-blown apocalypse was going to phase her.
Especially not my paltry little glare.
Fair enough.
Uncrossing my legs, I folded them underneath me, sucking down another sip of my tea as I settled deeper into the overstuffed armchair. I wasn’t a big tea kind of person, but the herbal blend I’d concocted in a fit of nerves last week seemed to be growing on me. I’d been doing a lot of things like that—things that Maria would have done herself if she’d just freaking wake up.
“I’m not setting foot in Aether until Maria wakes up, and that’s final.”
Final.
Like that word ever stopped my grandmother. I was pretty sure if she had even a single shred less class, she’d have given the Fates the old double middle-finger salute while telling them to kiss her ass.
That last bit might just be wishful thinking on my part. At least it was amusing to think about.
“It’s been a week, Maxima,” Bernadette chided softly, her voice full of understanding, but her message clear. I couldn’t wait much longer to interrogate Elias. The Fates were running out of patience, and I was running out of time.
“Have they gotten anything out of him at all?” I asked, unable to keep my gaze from shifting from Bernadette to Maria’s closed bedroom door.
I didn’t like being on this side of it. I didn’t like that I wasn’t watching her.
I didn’t like that I couldn’t figure out a way to help.
A week ago, Elias Flynn tried to use my sister as a sacrifice by offering her up to a demon as a host. Bernadette helped me stop him, but Maria still wasn’t awake. The longer her sleep lasted, the more I realized we might not have been as successful as I once thought.
If we were successful at all.

Title: Beautiful Carnage
Series: The Boys of Sinner Bay #1

Version: Ebook (ARC)
Release date: 24 January 2020
Rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis

“If she sleeps in my bed every night, she’ll end up falling in love with me … and that’ll be awkward as hell when I have to kill her.”

SLOAN

He’s my twisted nightmare.
My blood bound enemy.
My ruthless desire.

Our fates were spun the night he tried to kill me and now he’s back to destroy me for good.

It’s always been us verses them. The Calabresis against the Romeros.

This city is ours but they vowed to take it from us. And when they couldn’t, they took me instead.

Now I’m chained by the cruellest of them all; the man who wrapped his hands around my throat and tried to squeeze the life from me all those years ago.

But I won’t fall prey to him. I’m older, fiercer and I’ve grown claws of my own.

Rocco Romero thinks he can keep me captive, but he’s about to regret bringing a sleeping tiger into his home.

ROCCO

She’s my greatest failure.
The name that always haunts me.
My dirty little secret.

And when I had the chance to kidnap her from her wedding, nothing on God’s green earth could stop me.

She’s mine. I could take her life, her body or her heart if I wanted to.

But my brothers refuse to believe me.

So when they bet I can’t make the little principessa fall in love with me, of course I step up to the challenge.

And when she’s down on her knees, pouring her heart out, I’ll crush it in my fist.

I’m lining the Calabresis up like dominoes. And she’ll be the first to fall.

This book was provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti!

Beautiful Carnage is the first book in The Boys of Sinner Bay series and tells the story of Sloan and Rocco.

Beautiful Carnage is the first Contemporary Romance Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti have written and they killed it! It was such an amazing book and I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in one day because the story was so well written and I had to know how the story was going to end.

If you cut me open, her name would be branded right on the blackened lump of my heart.

Sloan’s dream is to be free, free from her father and to be able to live her own life. But life’s not always how we like it. She even gets captured by her enemy… But one thing that I love about her is that she keeps being strong! Rocco is your typical bully and some moments I kind of hated him but at the same time, I couldn’t stop loving him…

"I am yours from my black heart to my tarnished soul," he growled powerfully. "Take it, own it, destroy it, I don’t care as long as it’s in your possession."

Beautiful Carnage was such an amazing (and messed up) Romance read with an epic plot twist! I didn’t see the plot twist coming at all. Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti did another amazing job and I cannot wait for the next book in The Boys of Sinner Bay series!

Soft cut crease with shimmer | Tutorial

It’s been awhile since I did a tutorial but last week I felt like creating a look for my blog, so I played with the Makeup Revolution Maxi Reloaded Palette Monster Mattes that I got from my lovely sister.

This is the look that I created last week. It’s a natural-looking cut crease with some shimmer! The pictures don’t do the shimmer justice, it’s such a beautiful shade and doesn’t crease at all! I highly recommend this shade!

1. Prime your eyelids and set them with a light eyeshadow.

2. I used 4 different colours in the crease. I know, I know, I’m crazy. First I used the lightest shade in the crease and then I just dipped my brush in the three other shades and used them together in the crease.

3. For the cut crease I used my Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define concealer and I set it with this skin-like eyeshadow from the same Makeup Revolution palette I used in the previous step.

3. The last step for my eyeshadow is using this stunning eyeshadow from Nabla.

After eyeshadow I used the Essence Lash Princess Mascara in Waterproof and since I was going to school, I didn’t use any false lashes. For my eyebrows I used the Essence Micro Precise Eyebrow Pencil and the Catrice Lash & Brow Designer – Shaping and Conditioning Gel to set my brows. As for highlighter I used the Essence The Highlighter in 20 Hynoptic and lastly lips: I used the Suede Matte Lip Liner in Munchies and on top I used the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Mannequin.

And this is the finished eye look together with some brows!

He’s also scarred, rough, and broken down by burdens.
A single dad. A widower. A lost soul.

We found each other in the back of a dark pub.
He brought the whiskey.
I brought the bad decisions.
He called it a mistake.
I vowed never to speak to him again.

That vow is broken with one test.
Two pink lines have turned my life upside down.
One night can change everything.

Just One Night is the second book in the Blue Beech series and tells the story of Willow and Dallas. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Just One Night was another amazing book in the Blue Beech series. I really loved this book because it wasn’t just about romance but also about heartbreak, loss and finding love again. I finished this book in 1 day because it was just that good!

Just One Night is about Willow and Dallas, two characters we’ve met in Just A Fling. Like I mentioned before, you don’t have to read the first book to be able to read this one, but I still recommend it. I just love discovering more about characters and looking forward to reading about these characters in their own book. I really love Dallas, he’s trying to be a good father while mourning the loss of his wife. Willow went through a lot too and that’s why they can understand each other so much. They’re such a good couple!

I’m not always the biggest fan of accidental-baby Romance, but I really liked this one. Just One Night was such a beautiful and emotional book. I think that this story is pretty realistic while being fiction, which is something positive! I loved Just One Night and I cannot wait to read the next one in the series!

Reaper’s Blood is the first book in The Grimm Brotherhood series and tells the story of Salem Kaine.

Reaper’s Blood is the second book I’ve read about reapers and I think it’s my favourite one so far. I really liked the story and I couldn’t stop reading. This book was so fast paced and well written! The story is amazing and I loved the characters.

Speaking of characters, let’s start with Salem. She’s such a badass woman, and she has no filter. She’s such a funny character and I enjoyed reading about her. Graves is another interesting character and I was interested in him from the beginning! I loved that Graves’ mum has OCD, I think these tiny representations are amazing in books.

Reaper’s Blood was such a great book and I couldn’t get enough of the story and the characters. I really loved this book and it’s definitely one of my favourite books of the year so far! I cannot wait to read the sequel, Reaping Havoc!

Excerpt

A squeak left me as I jumped, falling sideways into the decrepit remainder of my car. I grunted, sitting up. Intense fluorescent light shined right in my face. I swatted it away, and the flashlight went flying.
Without the blinding brightness, I could see clearly again. The stranger in front of me was quite a looker. Dark hair. High cheekbones and a strong jaw. Stubble and full lips. I blinked twice, questioning for a moment if it were somehow possible I was still dead.
     Then the blue eyes hardened.
Definitely not dead, I decided again.
“Who the fuck are you?” I demanded, pulling myself to my feet.
“How about we start with what the fuck you’re doing trying to climb into a car that is on fire?” he snapped back.

The stories have been there, they were just waiting for her to tell them. Like any true SoCal native, Meg enjoys staying inside curled up with a good book and her cat Henry... or maybe that's just her; sunburns hurt! You can convince Meg to buy just about anything if it's covered in glitter or rhinestones, or make her laugh by sharing your favorite bad joke. She also accepts bribes in the form of baked goods and Mexican food.

This book was provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti!

Zodiac Academy: Shadow Princess is the fourth book in the Supernatural Beasts and Bullies series and continues the story of the twins Tory and Darcy.

I don’t know where to start my review. Zodiac Academy: Shadow Princess was a real rollercoaster. So many good and bad things happened in this book and the book ended with a massive cliffhanger and I’m still not recovered from that cliffhanger…

I think I finally discovered who my favourite twin is: Darcy. I can relate to her more, and I love her choice in choosing a boyfriend. Tory is really wild and I don’t always approve of her choices, but I love her too! As for the boys, I also have a favourite: Orion. No surprise that he’s my favourite. I just love how he is around Darcy and when he talks about his feelings. My second favourite is Darius. I haven’t figured him out yet but I really like him. Caleb and Max are okay but I don’t like Seth at all.

Zodiac Academy: Shadow Princess was another amazing book by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti. The story was so fast paced and I flew through the book even though the book is over 700 pages long. Zodiac Academy: Shadow Princess was just everything that I needed and even more. I’m so sad that the book ended the way it ended, I really need the sequel, Zodiac Academy: Cursed Fates ASAP!

January sales shopping in Antwerp

I want to post more things about what I do/did, and not just about the books I read and makeup tutorials, etc. So I decided to write a blog post about my January sales shopping trip. My mum and I always go to Antwerp at the beginning of the sales period and we went last Friday. I really enjoyed it even though I didn’t buy that much.

Bershka
I bought a cropped shirt and a soft pink sweater. The sweater is a bit shorter with long sleeves and I just love it, it’s so soft and the shade of pink is so stunning.

Kruidvat
So some of you may know this store, it’s a drugstore that you can find in Belgium and the Netherlands. I bought a beautiful purple scrunchie. I’ve been loving my scrunchies and it’s hard not to buy new colours!

Monki
A few years ago I bought the same kind of shirt but in another colour (blue with pink stripes) and I really like the fit, so I decided to buy this one. I’m looking for some good shirts for my internship because I cannot go to my internship in a band tee, right?! If you’re interested in this shirt, you can find it here.

Nyx
I couldn’t not buy some makeup products, right?! I bought my favourite black eyeliner in the world, a beautiful soft brown/grey lip liner and a glitter eyeliner. I’ve been looking for a beautiful glitter liner for a long time. I’m thinking of making some cut crease looks with this liner!

Primark
I bought a cute pair Harry Potter pyjama bottoms and they’re so soft! I also bought a pair of tights and some Funko pops. They were so cheap, they were only €3 per Funko pop!

The Body Shop
And last but not least: my The Body Shop goodies! I love buying TBS products during the sales period because they’re so cheap and you can buy these cute Christmas sets for yourself! I cannot live without my TBS hand cream so I bought two new ones as well as a cleanse gel. I also bought a cute set that contains a perfume and a body cream.

So that’s it! I hope you guys liked this post and there will probably be another one at the end of the month because my mum would love to go to another city to buy some more clothes!

Hometown Heartless | Cover reveal

Synopsis
When darkness falls, the stars ignite.

Against all odds, Iris has made her voice heard. Inspired by her call for freedom, sympathizers to her cause have occupied a prestigious theater in the heart of Adrye’s capital. Recognized as the face of the movement and caught in the thick of the demonstration, Iris finds all eyes turning to her.

The authorities are determined to stamp out the nascent uprising. When new and unexpected allies arrive in time to keep the patrolmen at bay, Iris welcomes them. However, their addition sparks further unrest. Though she pleads for peace, others believe the only viable path is an all-out battle.

Sister of Embers & Echoes (Rogue Ethereal #4) by Annie Anderson
Synopsis
Demons, murder, and a trip straight to Hell...

Time to sharpen my athames. Vacation time is over.
