The Death Cure | Review

Title: The Death Cure
Series: The Maze Runner #3
Author: James Dashner
Pages: 325 pages
Version: Paperback
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Rating: ★★★
The Death Cure is the third and final book of The Maze Runner series and continues the story of Thomas and his friends. After surviving the maze and the Scorch, the only thing is finding the true candidate for a cure. But who will it be and what are the consequeces?
I started reading The Death Cure because it was one of the last books on my TBR pile and I want to finish all my books of my TBR pile in 2016. So I actually started reading The Death Cure because I had to, not because I wanted to. One of the main reasons is that I didn't really care about the story anymore.

I think The Death Cure is okay, but I expected so much more. There were a lot of unneccesary things and events and I think if you'd left those parts out, it would already better. Another thing I dislike is the ending. The entire series is about finding a cure for the Flare and  at the end of The Death Cure they still haven't found one... Okay the ending is a kind of happy end, but I thought they were gonna find a cure so Newt could be cured and etc. But hey, I finished the book, that's something, right?

The Scorch Trials | Review

Title: The Scorch Trials

Series: The Maze Runner #2
Author: James Dashner
Pages: 361 pages
Version: Paperback
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Rating: ★★★

Wicked is good. I don't think so...

I am so shocked right now. I don't know how to write/type down how I feel after finishing The Scorch Trials. There were so many plot twists and there were many times I was angry/shocked/confused.

First of all, Teresa? Like WTF?? Like why the heck did she betray Thomas? What was the point? And why involve Aris like that? It made me change my perspective on her and him. Even though I still want Teresa and Thomas to be together (don't ask me why), I'm so angry at her. And why did she say Wicked is good??? I'm so confused...

And second of all, Brenda? First she's trying to kiss Thomas (which I hate because I'm team Teresa) and then when everything is 'okay' she suddenly talks telepathically with Thomas?

I need to read The Death Cure soon...

*Update: 23/7/2016 I changed my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars. I waited until The Death Cure to see if I liked it more than The Scorch Trials, but I did not.

Soldier | Review

Title: Soldier
Series: Talon #3
Author: Julie Kagawa
Pages: 400 pages
Version: Paperback
Publisher: Harlequin
Rating: ★★★★★

Soldier is the third book in the Talon series and it continues the story of Ember and her friends Riley, Wes and Garret.
When Garret saw the Patriarch from St. George and someone from Talon talking, he knew something was wrong. At the same moment he meets an Eastern dragon, Jade. Garret has to go back to Ember to tell what he saw and he's determined to stop Talon and St. George.

Soldier is an amazing sequel with a lot of plot twists. Like always, Julie Kagawa's writing is amazing and I loved the multiple perspective. You get to know a lot about the characters, there true feelings. Most of the time you know what the protagonist is feeling, in this case Ember, and that's it but in this series you get to know so much more. You get to know Riley's feelings and Garret's feelings. You know how both of the guys feels and not only how the girl feels. In Soldier you also get to know more about Garret's past. Those parts were really interesting. The only point of view I think is kinda boring, is Dante's. Okay, I get that you need to know some things about him too, but I don't think it's that important though.

There are a lot of plot twists and I didn't see them coming. For example in the epilogue you read that Dante (so also Ember) is the son of the Elder Wyrm. I was really shocked when I read that. Another thing I want to say is that Julie Kagawa is evil. The way she ended Soldier is so evil, letting us read that Garret's dead... Even though he probably won't be dead, I still had tears in my eyes!

To be honest, I don't know whether I'm team Riley or team Garret. I love Riley because he's so badass and he's trying to be more human for Ember. But Garret on the other hand doesn't have to try to be more human, because he's human and Ember doesn't feel obligated to be with him (she has that feeling with Riley because they're supposed to be life mates).

I cannot wait to read Legion, so Julie Kagawa you better finish that book so I can read it!

Tried to match my lips with the cover! Did some gold on my lips :)

Through the Zombie Glass inspired make-up look | Tutorial

I started reading the first book in the White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter and I loved it! I immediately started reading the second book and I finished it this morning. Because I loved them so much and the cover of Through the Zombie Glass was really pretty, I decided to do a make-up tutorial inspired by the cover.

On the cover you can see a smokey eye and some shiny red lips. I decided to do a blue smokey eye because the dress is blue and I kept the red lips. I made an extra look, with a diamond and a spade and I tried to draw a heart on my lips.

Click here for more information about the first book.

Products used:
  • NYX Wicked Dreams palette
  • NYX Love in Paris palette
  • 2 MAX & MORE palettes
  • Sleek highlighting palette in the shade Solstice
  • Yves Rocher Duo Magic
  • Essence longlasting lipstick 18 Matt Wanted! and 21 Très Chic
  • 2B Kajal-Kôhl Cream Velvet 01 Black
  •  Maybelline Mascara
  • Essence Eyeshadow Primer
  • Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in black

1. First apply your eyeshadow primer and apply a light colour (NYX Love in Paris) as a base and a darker colour (NYX Wicked Dreams) in the crease.

2. Use a dark blue colour (NYX Wicked Dreams) for in the crease

3. Use a bright blue (NYX Wicked Dreams) for the eyelid

4. Use an even brighter blue (Yves Rocher Duo Magic) for on top of the bright blue.

5. Use an eyeshadow (MAX & MORE) that's more or less the same to be sure that the colour stays put.

6. Use a dark blue (not too dark) eyeshadow (MAX & MORE) as an extra to the crease.

7. Use a makeup wipe to sharpen the lines.

8. Use a black eye pencil for your waterline and then smoke it out with some black eyeshadow.

9. Draw a little line as eyeliner (Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in black) to make the corner of your eye look darker.
10. Use highlighter for your inner corner, nose, cheek bones, cupid's bow and a little on your forehead.

11. Apply black mascara

12. And red lipstick is the final step. I first used a lighter red and then a darker red.

And this is the final look:

And because I wanted to match the cover even more, I wiped away my lipstick and drew a heart on my lips and then drew a diamond and spade under my eyes.

Let me know what you guys think!

The creatures of the night | Tag

Here's another tag because we all love tags!

1. Vampire
One of the best vampire series is Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Vampire Academy tells the story of Rose and her friend Lissa. Rose has to train to protect Lissa and she's falling in love with her trainer, Dimitri. Besides the love drama there are really cool scenes, some battles and you have 3 types of vampires: strigoi (the dead vampires), moroi (vampires with elemental abilities, like water, fire,...) and dhampir (half human, half vampire, they protect the moroi).
2. Werewolf
For werelwolf books I'm going to pick The Wolves of Mercy Falls because they were my first werewolf books I've ever read (besides Twilight). This series is written by Maggie Stiefvater and tells the story of Grace and Sam. Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house and never knew they were actual persons. When Grace meets Sam and looks in his eyes, she thinks they are so familiar. But why?
This is series is really good and I still need to read the 4th book.

3. Zombie
I actually haven't read a series about zombies. Only a stupid short story and a antology which contained a story about zombies.

4. Ghost
Anna Dressed in Blood is a really good book about ghosts. Anna Dressed in Blood is about a guy Cas and he kills ghosts. He kills them until he met Anna, a ghost. Anna kills all the humans who enter her house, but not Cas. And Cas is determined to know who Anna is and why she spared him.
5. Witch/Warlock/Spellcaster
One of the first series I read about witches was Wicca by Cate Tiernan. It's such a good series and even though there are a lot of books in the series, they're very thin. The story is about Morgan. She finds out she's a witch and she meets Cal, a guy who's also a witch (I think they call the male version also a witch, I'm not sure).
6. Fairy/Fae
The Iron Fey is definetly an amazing series about the fey! The series is written by Julie Kagawa and tells the story of Meghan, Puck and Ash. When her brother is taken away by the fey, Meghan is determined to go after him.
7. Demon
For Demons I'm going to pick the The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. Clary finds out she's a shadowhunter and shadowhunters fight demons. You probably know this series so I'm not going to give a mini synopsis. I love this series and also The Infernal Devices.
8. Angel
One of the best angel series is Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I really love this series because the story is sooo good. It tells the story of Nora and Patch, a fallen angel. They meet each other at school, but after terrifying events, she's not sure she can trust him... God, if you haven't read this series, go read it!!!
9. Alien
Do you still need to ask? The Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout!!!! I LOVE aliens and Jennifer did a great job creating this world of the Luxen. The story is about Katy and Daemon. Katy moves to a new town and meets Daemon. Daemon is a real ass, but Katy can't help falling in love with him.

10. Superpowered human

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi is another great series. It tells the story of Juliette. Her touch is lethal. But even though her touch is deadly, Adam talks with her and they're slowly falling in love. But Warner isn't happy about that...

A Thousand Pieces of You | Review

Title: A Thousand Pieces of You
Series: Firebird #1
Author: Claudia Gray
Pages: 360 pages
Version: Paperback
Publisher: HarperTeen
Rating: ★★★★★

A Thousand Pieces of You is a book about Marguerite Caine, she's the daughter of two amazing scientists who created the firebird, a device which can take you to another dimension. Together with Theo, Marguerite goes to another dimension to catch her father's killer, who also stole a firebird. But when they saw each other again, everything changed...

When I started reading in A Thousand Pieces of You I thought it was kinda strange. There were a lot of scientific terms and the order of the explanation was kind of strange. But when I read more, I began to find it more interesting and I wanted to know more about them, more about Marguerite, Theo and Paul.

I think A Thousand Pieces of You is an incredible read and I wish the second book was already translated (I read this in the Dutch version)! There were a lot of plot twists that I didn't see coming and they were so amazing. To be honest, I don't know if I'm team Theo or Paul. The moments of Marguerite and Paul in Russia were so enjoyable to read, but the other moments weren't that 'wow'. But then the moments I liked about Marguerite and Theo were actually about the Theo from the other dimension, so I don't know whether my judgement would be accurate because I don't really know the Theo from Marguerite's original dimension. So I'll have to read the sequel to find out which team I am!

Duizend Stukjes van Jou | Recensie

Titel: Duizend Stukjes van Jou
Serie: Firebird #1
Schrijver: Claudia Gray
Pagina's: 334 pagina's
Versie: Paperback
Uitgeverij: HarperCollins Holland
Score: ★★★★★

Graduation & going to college

Hi guys, I wanted to tell you that I graduated from high school on the 28th June and I’m so proud of myself. So proud that I made it this far and that my grades are pretty good. In the 6 years I went to my high school, I met a lot of great people and teachers, whom I now can call my friends. Here’s a picture of my entire year (we call it like that because we are split into different classes and now all the classes are together), excluding two people (one of them has to redo his math exam and the other one was not allowed to come because he did something bad this school year):

I don’t know if you know where I am on this picture, but I’m the girl with the long navy blue dress and the big smile lol.

I cannot thank my teachers and friends enough for making me the person I am right now. I’m going to miss them all, that’s for sure! I will never forget my graduation (even though I drank a lot of wine lol)!!!

Then a few days after my graduation I went to Thomas More, a college I’m going to attend in September. I went to enrol myself and it’s official: I’m going to college:

(Don’t look at my bags, I know they’re horrible!)

I’m going to do a bachelor's degree program to become a (business) translator & interpreter with ICT skills. I love languages and working with my laptop, so I can’t wait to start my first college year!

Top 5 vampire books

I love vampire books so I wanted to give you 5 series that I enjoyed reading!

1. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Vampire Academy is at the moment my favourite vampire series. I love the story so much and I like that this is a story about different types of vampires. You have moroi ('normal' vampires), dhampir (half human, half vampire) and strigoi (dead vampires). I love the friendships and relationships in this series and I wished I could read more about Rose!

If you only know the movie, you should definitely read the book because it's way better!
Click here for the first book of this series!

2. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
For those who don't know Twilight, where the hell have you been these years???? I mean who doesn't know Twilight?

I've been in love with this series since I was more or less 13 years old and I still love Twilight. When the 10th anniversary edition came out, I was so excited to read it. If you haven't read the anniversary edition, you should read it!
Click here for the first book of this series!

3. Sunshine by Nikki Rae
Nikki Rae is a self-publishing author and I love her books so much! She deserves to be on the list because she's amazing and I love her writing. Sunshine is a dark vampire book and it's amazing!
Click here for the first book of this series!

4. Blood of Eden by Julie Kagawa
I love books written by Julie Kagawa and when I heard that she would write a vampire series, I was so excited! This story is about a world where vampires rule and vampires give you protection when you donate blood. The concept is original and the books were really good!
Click here for the first book of this series!

5. House of Night by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast
I can say with honesty that sometimes I was a little confused because I read them in Dutch and it could take a year or more to translate the books and it was hard to keep following the story when there was always a year between them and 10000 characters (okay, I exaggerated, but there are a lot of characters). But besides that, I really enjoyed this series. This is also an original series because you get marked to become a vampire, but you're not yet a complete vampire. It's sometimes possible that you won't survive it.
