My favourite reads for July are A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Cursebreakers #1) by Brigid Kemmerer, Threat (Academy of Unpredictable Magic #4) by Sadie Moss, Make Me Lose (Bayshore #1) by Ember Leigh, Lilies On Main (Granite Harbor #4) by J. Until December is the eighth book in the Until Him/Her series and tells the story of December and Gareth. Although this is the eighth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Until December is the second book I’ve read by Aurora Rose Reynolds and I loved it! It was such a good book and hard to put down. I devoured this book, I just couldn’t stop reading! This is the first book I’ve read in the Until Him/Her series and I’m definitely going to read the other books in the series!

I really liked December and Gareth because they’re so different from each other. December is such a sweet woman and she loves reading. Gareth is a single parent of two boys and is really badass. Even though they’re different, you can definitely tell that they belong together!
I loved the fact that the romance wasn’t the most important thing in the book. It was also important that Gareth’s sons accepted December and there was this trouble with the boy’s mum.

Until December was an amazing Romance read and I cannot wait to read more books by Aurora Rose Reynolds!

Review

This book was provided by the author through InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Jennifer L. Armentrout and InkSlinger PR!

The King is a novella in the Wicked series and tells the story of Brighton and Caden. Although this is set in a series, it can be read as a standalone.

The King is the first book I’ve read in the Wicked series and I really liked it. It makes me want to read the first three books in the series as well as the other novella. I really liked the world Jennifer L. Armentrout has created and I really like the characters.

Even though I didn’t read The Prince novella, I could easily follow the story of Brighton and Caden. Brighton is such a strong person, she’s been through a lot before this book and in this book. I also really like Caden because he’s just so hot, oops.

The King was an amazing novella and I cannot wait to read the next novella as well as the four other books in the series. Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my favourite authors and she did an amazing job with The King!

Excerpt

“I don’t think this is wise,” Tink said for what had to be the hundredth time since he realized I was getting ready for a night out. “Like I think this is very poorly thought-out, if you ask me, Lite Bright.”
“I didn’t ask you, Tink.”
My uninvited roommate of sorts hovered outside my bathroom. Tink wasn’t human, but right now, he looked like any normal twenty-something guy. Well, if normal, twenty-something guys had natural, shockingly white hair and were beautiful in a way that almost seemed fragile.
This was his full-grown Tink size, something I was still—even after all this time—getting used to. I was more accustomed to pint-sized Tink with the translucent wings. After all, he was a brownie.
After the attack that had taken my mother’s life and should’ve ended mine, he’d basically moved in with me. He’d been here for the last two years, something Ivy’s husband pretended to be grateful for, but in reality, I knew he secretly missed the dude.
“You should ask me,” he replied. When I glanced over at him, I got a little distracted by the dazzle…emanating from the sequin tank top he wore. It was so shimmery that I wondered if he was using some of his magic.
Tink may be a goofball, but he was also one of the most powerful creatures in our realm.
Thank God there was only one of him.
“I am a wealth of amazing advice,” he continued. Dixon, the cat he’d named after a Walking Dead character that Tink called “the hottest redneck eva” slinked around Tink’s ankles. The cat was all gray except for his tail, which looked like it had been dipped in white paint.
I snorted. “When have you ever given me good advice?”
“When I told you two weeks ago not to eat the whole carton of beignets because you’d get sick and you did,” he shot back.
I winced, picking up my mascara. I had gotten sick, but I deserved that carton of sugary, fried goodness. That day…
I didn’t want to think about that day.
“And what about when you ordered that supreme pizza and ate almost all of it?” he said. “I told you that it would probably make you feel bad later.”
Nose wrinkling, I tried to remember what night he was talking about. There were a lot of Friday nights—pizza night in my household—that I ate an entire pie and felt terrible afterward.
“Or how about that time I told you that the seared ahi tuna looked a little gray for my liking? But, oh no, Brighton knows better.” He reached down, scratching Dixon between the ears. “You ate it all, and then I spent the night cleaning up your puke.”
Ew.

Troublemaker is a Young Adult Contemporary Romance about Ava and Javier. Ava is famous but because of a stalker she has to go to Mexico. In Mexico she meets Javier and everything changes…

Troublemaker is the first book I’ve read by Heather Beck and I really liked the story and the characters. Troublemaker is full of drama and that’s just what I needed! The book was really fast paced, I finished it in two days.

I really like the characters, Ava and Javier. They’re both so different, Ava is rich and is famous, and Javier is just the perfect gentleman. I really liked Javier from the beginning because he was just such a nice guy. I really liked that Ava didn’t have this big ego because she was famous and that she liked being in Mexico.

Troublemaker was such an enjoyable Contemporary read and I cannot wait to check out other books written by Heather Beck!

Title: Zodiac Academy: The Awakening
Series: Supernatural Beasts and Bullies #1
Authors: Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti
Pages: 498 pages
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Release date: 2 August 2019
Rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis

You have been selected to attend Zodiac Academy, where your star sign defines your destiny.

If you’re one of the Fae, elemental magic is in your blood. And apparently it’s in ours. As twins born in the month of Gemini, we’re a rare breed even in this academy of supernatural a-holes.

Changelings were outlawed hundreds of years ago but I guess our birth parents didn’t get the memo. Which means we’re totally unprepared for the ruthless world of Fae.

Air. Fire. Water. Earth.

No one has ever harnessed all four of them, until we arrived. And it hasn’t made us any friends so far.

As the rarest Elementals ever known, we’re already a threat to the four celestial heirs; the popular, vindictive bullies who happen to be some of the hottest guys we’ve ever seen. It doesn’t help that they’re the most dangerous beasts in the Academy. And probably on earth too.

Our fates are intertwined, but they want us gone. They’ve only got until the lunar eclipse to force us out and they’ll stop at nothing to succeed.

We never knew we had a birthright to live up to but now that we do, we intend to claim our throne.

We can’t expect any help from the faculty when it comes to defending ourselves. So if the dragon shifters want some target practice, the werewolves want someone to hunt or the vampires fancy a snack then we have to be ready. But we’ve been looking after each other for a long time and fighting back is in our blood.

Today’s horoscope: totally screwed.

This is a full-length medium burn novel that is the first in a university-age academy series. Expect forbidden love and bully romance with mature content suitable for upper YA readers and onwards.

Review

This book was provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti!

Zodiac Academy: The Awakening  is the first book in the Supernatural Beasts and Bullies series and tells the story of the twins Tory and Darcy.

When I read the prequel, Zodiac Academy: Origins of an Academy Bully, I was really intrigued by the world Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti have created. I really liked the concept of a school with different creatures and some weird rules. When I started reading the first book, I was immediately hooked. I really wanted to know what was going to happen to our main characters, Tory and Darcy.

Tory and Darcy are twins but that doesn’t mean that they’re the same person. They’re both so different and that’s why they get along so well. It was really hard for them to go to the Zodiac Academy because they’d never heard of this world, of all these creatures. I think that both girls are really strong and badass because they won’t let people bully them and they keep on a brave face!

Zodiac Academy: The Awakening is an amazing introduction to the Supernatural Beasts and Bullies series and I cannot wait to read the next book, Zodiac Academy: Ruthless Fae! Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti are an amazing writing duo and I cannot get enough of their books!

Review

This book was provided by the author through Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review. Thank you D.M. Davis and Give Me Books Promotions!

The Road To Redemption is the first book in the Finding Grace series and tells the story of Theo and Lauren.

The Road to Redemption is the fourth book I’ve read by D.M. Davis and I really enjoyed it. I liked the story and the main characters’ connection. I really like D.M. Davis’ writing style although I think that this book was a tiny bit long-winded. I think that the story could’ve been a bit shorter, in my opinion.

Besides that one negative point, I really liked the story. I really liked the characters and their connection, as I’ve mentioned before. I think I can really relate to Lauren because I am really insecure about a lot things and I need constant confirmation that someone still loves me and cares about me. Lauren is the same as me, but she’s been through so much more.

Theo is an amazing male character. He wants to take care of Lauren and constantly shows how he feels for her and he’s just perfect for her. Although Lauren doesn’t always believe his feelings, I think that soon they’ll be married with some babies!

The Road To Redemtion is an amazing book and I cannot wait to read the rest Lauren and Theo’s story in the second book!

Title: Make Me Lose
Author: Ember Leigh
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release day: 23 July 2019

Synopsis

Grayson Daly and I aren’t just rivals. We’re enemies.

Born minutes apart on the same day in the same hospital, our parents thought this meant we were somehow destined to be together. We knew were we just destined to beat each other.

Competition boiled over until junior year, when the cold war turned into an unexpected peace offering. Maybe my hormones allowed me to notice his broad shoulders, stormy gray-blue eyes, and soccer star’s chiseled frame. But after I fell for him…he stomped all over my heart.

Ten years later, I’m at the top of the realty game in Bayshore and Grayson is just a distant memory. Until he shows up from NYC, his ego bigger than a skyscraper, and asks me to sell the house he recently inherited.

It’s easy to say no. Even though I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to dangle from in strong arm battles.

But I forgot that Gray doesn’t take no for an answer. And that he isn’t content unless he’s defeating me. He butts into my evenings on the boat. Ropes me into water skiing battles. Even shows up at the bar and creates a scene when I’m scouting a date to the upcoming Bicentennial Ball.

It’s almost like he’s gunning to win me.

But if he wins, that means I lose.

And I’m not ready to cede victory just yet.

Make Me Lose is the first book in the Bayshore series and tells the story of one of the Daly brothers, Grayson, and Hazel.

Make Me Lose was another amazing book written by Ember Leigh! I’ve read a few of her books from the Breaking series and I really loved those, and Make Me Lose was another well written and quick read! Although I know Ember Leigh for her Sports Romance books, I still loved Make Me Lose, I think Ember Leigh can write any subgenre of Romance!

Make Me Lose is about Grayson and Hazel and I really liked their story. They’ve always been really competitive and that makes this story even more fun. I really like Hazel, not just for her personality, but also for her name. I think that Hazel is such a pretty name! Grayson is obviously a hot guy that you cannot resist, but I also like his sensitive side.

Make Me Lose is such an amazing book with lovely characters and such a good plot. I really liked the story and I finished it in one day, it was that good! I cannot wait to read the second book in the Bayshore series!

Title: Falter
Series: The Nash Brothers #4
Author: Carrie Aarons
Release date: 25 July 2019

Synopsis

Ryan Shea has sworn off men.

After her last relationship imploded in front of her eyes, she decides to take a break from swimming in the dating pool … possibly forever. The brilliant computer whiz loses her brain when it comes to love, and jumping feet first burns her every time.

Without a home, or much of a clue where life is headed, taking a trip back to the small town of Fawn Hill to stay with her best friend seems like the only option.

Except it puts Ryan directly in the path of the one man she can’t fall for. Fletcher Nash reminds her too much of the dark past she’s always run from; his demons are the things of her nightmares. And it’s no help that, when he looks at her, she feels as if Fletcher is the one person who truly understands.

Fletcher Nash vowed not to fall in lust.

Five years of sobriety, and he hasn’t broken the chastity promise yet. Not that it had to keep for this long … he’s well over the normal year addicts are told not to get involved.

But, aside from a busy schedule and trying to chase his dream of becoming a full-time artist, he has no intentions of committing to a woman until she is the one.

Why is it, then, that sassy, city girl Ryan Shea comes dangerously close to resembling the exact woman he could break that promise for? Like sand through his fingers, there is no way she’ll stay put … but his heart just won’t listen.

They pledged not to love anyone until it was the real thing. So what happens when two people terrified of falling head-over-heels, actually do?

Review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Carrie Aarons!

Falter is the fourth book in The Nash Brothers series and tells the story of Fletcher and Ryan. Although this is the fourth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Falter was yet again an amazing book by Carrie Aarons and I couldn’t get enough of the story. I finished this book in one day because I really liked the story and the characters. It’s nice to read about all the four Nash brothers and them falling in love.

Falter is about Fletcher and Ryan, they’re both different yet the same. I really liked that Fletcher was such a strong character. He’s an addict but he’s been sober for five years and that’s admirable. Ryan is a strong character as well because her mum left her and she’s been in foster care. They’re just perfect for each other.

The Nash Brothers series is an amazing series and I loved reading about the family and their love story. I think that the third book, Flutter, is my favourite out of all four books. I just couldn’t get enough of Forrest. I really liked this series and I cannot wait to read more books by Carrie Aarons!

Lilies on Main is the fourth book in the Granite Harbor series and tells the story of Lydia and Aaron. Although this is the fourth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Lilies On Main was yet another amazing book in the Granite Harbor series and I loved the story. I had some It Ends with Us (Colleen Hoover) vibes and I loved that this book was mentioned in Lilies On Main. I think that this book and It Ends with Us have such a strong message and both of these books are somewhat heartbreaking.

Lilies on Main talks about two characters, Lydia and Aaron. Lydia has a past and she doesn’t really like talking about it. She just wants to keep herself and her daughter safe from the man that broke her heart. Aaron is the perfect guy for Lydia although she doesn’t really want to open up to him. Lilly, Lydia’s daughter, is also such a cute and funny character, I loved reading about her!

I think that Lilies on Main was such a beautiful book and I couldn’t stop reading. I really wanted to know what was going to happen to Lydia and Aaron, and I loved that their romance was a bit slow burn. Lilies on Main was such a good book and I cannot wait to read the next J. Lynn Bailey book!

Make Me Lose | Release day blitz

Excerpt

Grayson cocks a smirk, the type that takes me right back to that psychotic period when I fell in love with him for three months. Except now he’s older, more refined. He’s got on a medium-gray suit that sits halfway between Billionaire Chic and Vogue model. Alligator shoes that come to a point. He stuffs his hands in his pockets as he begins an intolerable saunter toward me. “You’re really going to act like you don’t know who I am?” The gruff bass of his voice sends heat straight to my pussy. I blink demurely for a few moments, feigning my best confused face. I squint at him. I let it draw out. Maybe too long. “Hazel,” he says. “Cut the crap.” His commanding tone irritates me so much that I do exactly as he says. I set my lips in a thin line. “Oh, jeez. Yes, Grayson Daly. It can only be you.” I avoid his gaze as I set to work reorganizing my desk. Anything to avoid looking at his impossibly handsome frame, his dark hair clipped short on the sides but longer on top, allowing one delectable finger wave to emerge. “Sorry, I didn’t recognize you.” I can’t help myself. The words fly out. “You got old.” He cocks his head to the side, an expression like oh, come on creasing his face. “I’m ten minutes older than you, so I assume you feel the same way about yourself.” Ugh. He always threw that ten minutes older than you crap in my face growing up. Like it allowed him to ultimately win. Well not anymore. I’m taking my ten extra minutes of youthfulness and running with it. “I’m as perky and bright as they come,” I say, tossing him a plasticized smile. “A veritable fountain of youth.” As I face him down, I try to see myself in my mind’s eye. Hoping my fire-engine red lipstick isn’t smeared. It never is, but on the day that Grayson shows up, you can never be too sure. I thank the gods above that I got my eyebrows done earlier this week. I would have prepped more, had I known Grayson was going to saunter into my office as if he was auditioning for the role of Unaffected Businessman. But I’ll have to work with what I’ve got. “Now, how may I help you, sir?” An annoyed burst of air rushes past his lips. Treating him like I don’t know him, don’t care about him—this is my new plan of attack. “Thought you might be able to help me sell a house.” He works his jaw back and forth as his gaze skates around my office. “I won’t be needing it, since you couldn’t pay me a million dollars to live in Bayshore.”

Ew.
